You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others - something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.

Albert Schweitzer

Welcome to the Windward Oahu Rotary!

February 23, 1905, Chicago attorney, Paul Harris, invited three friends to meet with him to discuss an idea he had for a group whose purpose would be to cultivate business relationships and develop friendships.  Thus was the beginning of the world’s oldest and most prestigious service club organization.

Although early meetings focused on fostering fellowship, before long the founders discovered a more profound purpose for their club.  Within a year, the club began to formulate the basic tenants and principles, which later evolved into the Object of Rotary, encouraging and fostering the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.  Service, whether shared in our own communities or in the larger world community, is the very core of Rotary.

In this Centennial Year we will be celebrating the last 100 years of service and building the foundation for the next 100 years of opportunities to further our cause of service in seeking world peace and understanding.

This Centennial Year will be busier than usual with particular emphasis on:

  • Fulfilling our promise to eradicate polio from the face of the earth
  • Completing the Centennial Projects
  • Family of Rotary (and Families of Rotarians)
  • Newly reorganized District Community Service Committee
  • Newly reorganized District Vocational Service Committee
  • Second year, and a larger allocation, for District Simplified Grants
  • Two inbound and two outbound GSE teams representing District 9200, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia & Eritrea and District 4060, Dominican Republic
  • Building a base for future projects and exchanges with our new Twin District 4690 in Bolivia
  • Education of our Rotarians in our clubs as well as at District events
  • “Every Rotarian Every Year”
  • Opportunities for every Rotarian to become a Benefactor or Bequest Society member of the Rotary Foundation.
  • Celebrating Rotary’s 100th Birthday with parties around the District in February
  • “Blowout” Centennial District Conference and Celebration in Eugene

We look forward to sharing this once in a lifetime Centennial experience with each of you and ask for your support as we CELEBRATE ROTARY – all that we’ve done and all that we have yet to do!
