International Service Project 2005-2006

As you know, past RI President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar and our past District Governor Roz have requested that we conduct an international service project in support of water management and sanitation this year. Our club has located a worthy project proposed by a Rotary club in Uganda, however the cost of the project is too great for an individual club to bear.

Rotary Foundation

Our club has been an outstanding supporter of the Foundation in past years. We hope to continue this year and achieve the District 5000 goal of $150 per club member average yearly contribution to the Foundation.

Benefactor Program

We will continue to encourage members to include the Rotary Foundation as a benefactor in their estate planning.

Carry Over Projects

Two projects started during the preceding Rotary year will be completed this year. These include a $500 commitment for a joint water well project in Ghana with District 5170 and $473 commitment to a World Community Service project with District 1170 from Lima Peru.

World Community Service Project (WCS)

Bede Cooray is in contact with District 3230 in Sri Lanka and has received a list of proposed projects. Recently, Bede presented on behalf of WIndward Oahu Rotary a check for $3,600 to the North Colombo Rotary Club. This money is for the Colombo National Hostpital to provide much needed water mattresses for quadriplegics to help them with circulation.

Polio Plus Partners

We will continue to support Polio Plus with a $500 donation. To learn more about Polio Plus click here.

Sister Clubs

Over the years we have had three sister clubs. Two in Japan and one in New Zealand. One of the clubs in Japan was the only one with which we had any meaningful exchanges. Lindy Chun and Bede Cooray have initiated contact with that club in an effort to reestablish a sister club relationship.

Ambassadorial Scholarships

We will request members of the club to nominate candidates for these scholarships. Bede is also working with District 5000 to get a past scholar as a speaker at one of our meetings.
